DRIFT is a public intervention by the Italian/American artistic duo Lovett/Codagnone, curated by Antonio Leone and Salvatore Davì. The project was conceived and coordinated by Francesco Costantino and Fausto Brigantino, co-founders of the company Azoto projects & communication, in partnership with ruber.cotemporanea. The technical development of the intervention was promoted by Alessi S.p.A., an external advertising agency and partner of the project. The intervention will be comprised of twenty billboards measuring 6x3mt disseminated throughout the entire urban area of Palermo -from the city center to the suburbs- each with images created by Lovett/Codagnone specifically for this project. There will be a preview of the project with one billboard “DRIFT/t damned” on June 11 until June 24h in Piazza Luigi Sturzo (corner of via Bertolino Giuseppe Puglisi) in Palermo. The rest of the campaign will be presented on August 6 and will be on view until August 31 2018. The billboards will interact with the urban context in a random way according to the spaces allocated for advertising.
DRIFT aims to activate an anomalous interaction between the viewers and their expectations of advertising images, creating a space where the relationship between commercial demand and cultural demand is questioned. In a space intended for marketing Lovett/Codagnone use images to activate a perceptive conflict, urging a process of reflection and critical analysis toward different forms of control that operates on the individual and on collective identity models.
