Fatimide Tales

Fatimide Tales
June – July 2017

A project by the Manifesta 12 education department in collaboration with the artist Gabriella Ciancimino and children from Amari-Roncalli-Ferrara School and Piazza Magione.

Fatimide is the ancient name of what we know today as Piazza Magione, once a lush garden of plants and flowers from different parts of the world. Over the course of several centuries, many children – Nasira, Gemma, Violante, Anna – recorded their childhood memories through letters. The children who currently reside on the square listened to these stories and then represented them with large drawings, which have been compiled in a book titled The Fatimide Tales that also includes a map of the square with playgrounds and meeting places that document everyday life there. The last part of the workshop facilitated the creation of a large pictorial installation on the windows of the library, which placed several of the children’s drawings in dialogue with the particular visual language of the artist.
