Casa del Mutilato
via Alessandro Scarlatti, 12

In 1936, architect Giuseppe Spatrisano won the competition for the Casa del Mutilato in the San Goiliano neighbourhood, between Donizzetti, Scarlatti and Rossini streets, called by the National Association of the Disabled and Wounded in War. Inaugurated on 21 May 1939, the building is a calculated architectural expression of the Rationalist style. For the propaganda of the Fascist Regime, the typology of the Casa Del Mutilato represented not only a place to celebrate the war wounded as homo novus, but also an important centre from which to provide support services. Presently, the building houses the penal section of the Justice of the Peace and the A.N.M.I.G. offices. Some wings of the building are no longer used and still conserve the original furnishings designed by Spatrisano.

Casa del Mutilato is part of the section Out of Control Room of The Planetary Garden. Cultivating Coexistence, and hosts the three-channel video installation, Unending Lightning, by the artist Cristina Lucas.
